Stalling in BJJ

By admin on September 25, 2011 in Product Reviews

Competitors who take Glen Burnie Jiu Jitsu classes have all experienced a situation in a competition where the opponent was stalling. One scenario may be they get side mounted and the top person just locks down and doesn’t move. They don’t try to advance their position or try for submissions making it very hard very hard to escape. Another scenario may be the opponent pulls closed guard and just holds on to you with no attempt to seep or submit. When someone stalls it is extremely frustrating especially if there is a lot of time left in the match. It is obvious when someone is trying to stall and referees are calling competitors for it more and more.

Competitors stall in a position for numerous reasons. Sometimes they don’t have the conditioning to actively attack their opponent so they get into a semi-neutral or more dominant position. Once in a good stalling position they will spend that time catching their breath or use that time to think about their next attack. By taking Glen Burnie BJJ classes they can do conditioning routines regularly to minimize the chances of fatigue. Other competitors stall because they are really good at managing the clock during a BJJ tournament. There are a lot of people in Maryland BJJ competition who are up by points and they wait for their coach to yell ’60 seconds’ or ’30 seconds’ before they stall. This is more of a strategic reason. They figure if there is not  lot of time left it is better to no give their opponent a chance to capitalize off of any mistakes. Brazilian jiu jitsu organizations like the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) don’t like it when someone is stalling for time. The competitor that is stalling will usually get one warning to start working and then will be penalized. The referee will take points away, award points to the opponent and eventually disqualify the stalling competitor. Sometimes it pays to stall and sometimes is doesn’t so it up to each individual to determine where they stand.
